Our Story
Experience the authentic taste of spiced chai
Growing up in India, chai was never just a beverage. It was how neighbors became friends. It was how guests were welcomed. It was the reason people lingered a little longer at the table. Whether shared on a front porch, at a roadside tea stall, in a family kitchen, or during an afternoon break at work, chai had a remarkable way of bringing people together. Some of life’s best conversations happened over a cup of tea. When we moved to the United States, we brought many things with us-memories, traditions, recipes, and a deep appreciation for the simple rituals that create a sense of belonging. Among them was chai. As we settled into a new country and a new community, we often found ourselves returning to the same thought: if chai has always been a way to build connection, what better way to build community here? That idea became OCT Chai Bar. OCT, short for Organic Chai Theory, was born from a desire to create more than a café. We wanted to create a welcoming space where people could gather, connect, work, learn, share stories, and slow down for a moment in the middle of a busy day.

The idea for OCT started taking roots in 2016, when in Chicago, We couldn't find a single café that could offer a selection of chai for people working downtown. Everytime that craving of a good ginger tea hit, I was reduced to drink the packed tea I brought everyday from home. Problem was, the tea wasn't fresh.
It inspired me to one day have a café just to provide a fresh cup of tea to that burnt out professional, or a tired mum, or to a Chai enthusiast (Much like myself). OCT is just not a business, it is a business driven by a chai enthusiast for other chai enthusiasts. A cup of chai is an experience, an old memory, a smile; and we aim to keep those close to your heart.
